PRAIRIE ROCK WATERFOWL HUNTS
One of the most important habitats in the central Flyway for migrating waterfowl is the famed North Platte River. Flowing just 15 miles south of where the prairie pothole region starts, our river properties stretch from Oshkosh to Scottsbluff, Nebraska with a 70 mile swath from east to west. We manage over 40 miles of river and creek bottoms that contain the infamous “geo-thermal” sloughs which never freeze. Combine miles of warm water sloughs with massive adjacent corn fields and you’ve got the ultimate wintering grounds for millions of waterfowl each year.
It starts in early November with the first flights of northern mallards, and continuously builds through the winter as the giant flocks of ducks and geese gather and stage to and from their breeding grounds. Annually, we hold approximately 250,000-500,000 mallards and at times 500,000 to 1,000,000 Canada geese (giants to lessers and everything in between) in our region.
Traditionally, waterfowl hunting is experienced from the comfort and heat of our underground pits, but we also hunt from traditional framed duck blinds too. Currently, we have over 25 locations in a variety of environments from open water river hunts to warm water sloughs in the timber and pits in dry fields. There’s no doubt that our duck and goose hunts are world class and offer some of the best wing shooting in North America. Its like Canada, but better, and you don’t have to cross international borders or worry about customs to get here.
